Attacking Input Costs on All Fronts

KY Corn has its sights set on alleviating the high cost of farm inputs and is bringing attention at the state, national, and international level to the harmful impacts on farm profitability already seen from the input cost crisis.

The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) sounded the alarm early, sending a letter to the Trump administration back in August 2025 to shine a light on the the price of inputs.

NCGA formed the Input Cost Task Force in September 2025. Christian County farmer and  NCGA board member, Brandon Hunt, and Kentucky Corn Executive Director, Laura Knoth, both serve on the Task Force.

Since the formation of the Task Force, policymakers, regulators, and industry partners have taken notice.

The Department of the Interior added phosphate and potash to the critical minerals list. The Trump Administration announced that it would reduce tariffs on important fertilizer imports. And USDA signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to strengthen competition for agricultural inputs.

In conjunction with the national coalition of corn states, KY Corn has signed multiple letters to directly impact this issue.

NCGA worked with House Members on improving a draft letter to USDA and DOJ regarding inputs and highlighting the role of antitrust enforcement. An industry letter was sent to the Department of Commerce opposing phosphate duties that will be filed in the sunset review process. NCGA worked with congressional leaders to send a letter to the International Trade Commission asking them to revoke the phosphate countervailing duties. NCGA signed onto a letter to Mosaic and Simplot asking them to renounce their support of the duties on phosphate from Morocco, and has since fought back when Mosaic and Simplot doubled down on their support for duties.

While farmers are feeling the pressure of cost hikes this planting season, KY Corn is fighting for input cost relief.

What we do.
