Once applications are received and the enrolled land is verified, KyCGA/KySGGA
will trade the carbon credit pool on the
Chicago
Climate Exchange, and each year following during the contract
period.
The price per metric
ton of carbon varies depending on the market. Recently, a metric ton of
carbon has been selling in the $4 to 4.50 range.

The funds from the sale
are returned to the producer/landowner minus a $0.20/ton trading fee
from CCX®. If applicable,
verification fees are also deducted from the sale. Currently, CCX® is
covering the cost of verification for soil offsets only.
KyCGA/KySGGA
is required to place 20
percent of the offsets it earns into a soil carbon reserve pool for
instances of contract forfeiture or natural disaster. Any remaining offsets will be returned
to project participants at the end of the agreement period.
